Which Used Carp Rod?

When you buy a used carp rod or indeed a new carp rod you need to take into consideration the test curve is right for the type of fishing that you'll mainly be doing. The test curve is measured in lb's and refers to the amount of weight that is required to bend the tip of the rod round 90 degrees to the butt of the rod. The more the test curve the stiffer the rod will be. For medium range fishing a rod of 2.5lb test curve should be enough, however if fishing at long range you will need around a 3lb test curve rod.

The action of the rod describes how the rod bends, a through action rod would be used for short to medium range carp fishing as it offers more bend throughout the whole length of the rod and thus gives more of a shock absorber when playing the fish. A fast-tapered carp rod is be better suited for medium to long range fishing and is less forgiving when playing a fish at short range. If you can afford two sets of rods then I would recommend buying a set of 2.5lb test curve rods and a set of 3lb test curve rods. A nice addition would be a 2.15lb test curve rod for margin fishing.
